The Future of Vegan Designs
Over the past few years, many prevalent fashion-centric companies have committed themselves to creating animal-friendly and sustainable collections. Retailers like Topman, Dr. Martens, Nigel Hall Menswear, Primark and White Stuff have also began to offer items that use eco-friendly, naturally-sourced vegan materials.
Making the move
2016 saw brands like Dr. Martens’ offer their iconic classic design in a durable vegan leather that held up against its original design. Their 1460 Vegan Leather Boots even won the 2016 PETA Vegan Icon Award.
Other companies that have made similar moves include German shoe company Birkenstock, which has brought its vegan sandals to the U.S. market as of this week. While the vegan versions of their shoes have been available in Europe for some time, their commitment to offering vegan options has moved overseas.
Clothing companies like UK based Topman, have also strived to offer a men’s line that has a selection of suits, shoes and other items that are free from animal products like wool and leather. OBEY is another clothing line that offers vegan items that stand behind their founder, street artist Shepard Fairey’s activism efforts. H&M has even offered feather-free versions of parkas for the upcoming winter season.
Vegan-centric companies like Matt & Nat, Votch and Beyond Skin are continuing to organically attract new customers into 2017, solidifying their stance on using eco-friendly and animal-friendly products.
Vegan and High fashion
Plus, vegan-clothing veteran Stella McCartney just recently announced that she’s expanding into menswear this year. Vegan fashions have been seen in GQ magazine with celebrities like Benedict Cumberbatch wearing designs from vegan companies like Brave Gentleman. In the world of high fashion, sustainable and animal-friendly products have had an approving nod.
This is a pivotal time to find a balance between animal-friendly products and comfort and style. Whether you’re a high-fashion guru or a simple man looking for simple designs, animal-friendly clothing options are becoming widely available across the spectrum.
